Champu Khangpok village on Loktak lake is considered as world’s only natural floating village. The villagers live in a floating hut called as Khangpok. Loktak is also home to world’s only floating national park, Keibul Lamjao national park which shelters the endangered Sangai deer. Government is actively trying to make this floating village in Manipur a Heritage village. A visit to Loktak offers a glimpse into a rare way of life, blending nature, culture, and adventure.

2. Dal Lake
Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, is famous for its floating villages, where locals live in beautifully crafted houseboats and stilt homes. These villagers are from Hanjis community and mostly dependent on fishing, tourism and floating Meena bazar (market). Another most famous thing Dal Lake offers is Shikara boat rides where you could experience all these with an incredible view of lake and the great Himalayas. You can also stay in Houseboats and experience the lifestyle of local people of this floating village. 3. Chilika Lake
Chilika Lake Odisha is Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon, home to floating fishing villages where locals live in houses built on stilts and boats. It is home to rich biodiversity, including Irrawaddy dolphins and thousands of migratory birds, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Chilika’s serene beauty, vibrant ecosystem, and unique floating village make it a must-visit destination, offering an experience of traditional life harmonizing with nature.
