Sitting to on foothills of the Himalayas, Itanagar is the capital of northeastern state of India, Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar is a beautiful blend of history and nature. Here, I am sharing some of the must visit tourist places in Itanagar.
1. Ganga Lake
Ganga Lake, Itangar is famously known as Gyekar Sinyi. It is a serene natural lake located about 6 kilometers from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. Sitting between the lush green forests and rolling Himalayan hills, it offers a peaceful and memorable escape from city life. The lake has crystal clear water reflecting its surrounding and making it a picture-perfect spot to visit. It features rich biodiversity including birds and butterflies. You can enjoy boating or take peaceful walks along the shaded paths. It also holds cultural and ecological significance for the local people.

2. Ita Fort
Ita Fort is a historical monument which is built between 14th and 15th century by the Sutiya kings. The word “Ita” means “Bricks” so, Ita Fort means “Fort of Bricks”. It is constructed mainly with bricks and covers an area of about 45 acres. The fort is located on a hill, which offers a panoramic view of surrounding valleys. The fort is now in ruins, but Ita fort remains is an important archaeological site reflecting the region’s ancient heritage. Its rich cultural and historical significance also gave the name of the city, Itanagar.

3. Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum
The Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum Itanagar is also known as the State Museum was established by the first prime minister of India Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in 1980s. It was established to preserve Arunachal Pradesh’s rich tribal heritage. Here you can see detail display of tribal clothes, jewellery, musical instruments, religious objects, various handicraft and many more about various tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. You can also see archaeological findings of Arunachal Pradesh and able to know it’s history.

4. Gompa Temple
Gompa temple Itanagar is also known as Thupten Gatseling Monastery. It is a beautiful hilltop sanctuary consecrated by the Dalai Lama himself. The monastery serves as the centre of Buddhist studies in the region. Located just above Nehru Museum, it offers a stunning panoramic view of Itanagar and the surrounding valleys. It has designated meditation spaces where you can meditate, and peaceful gardens.

5. Indira Gandhi Park
Indira Gandhi Park is one of the most famous Itanagar sightseeing places. It is nestled in the heart of Itanagar, featuring lush lawns, ornamental flowerbeds, tall shade trees, and well-paved pathways which is ideal for walking, jogging, yoga, or family picnics. The park has children’s play areas, a small lake, and a retired HAL Gnat aircraft on display, adding historical charm. If you want to spend a peaceful time and don’t want to go long distance then this is the perfect place.
