Majuli also spelled as Mazuli is the world’s largest river island. Sitting in the middle of Brahmputra River, it is cultural hub of Assam. 1. Satras
Majuli island is renowned for its Satras. Satras are Vaishnavite monasteries, these are not just religious centers-they are also cultural institutions that preserve dance, drama, music, literature, and traditional crafts. These Satras are established by Srimanta Sankardeva and his disciples in the 15th and 16th centuries. Earlier there were more than 65 Satras, but now due to various reasons there are around 44 Satras left. Some of the most visit Satras are:

- Kamala Bari Satra – Known for its contributions to art, literature, and classical studies.
- Auniati Satra – Famous for its museum having antiques artifacts, traditional jewellery, old manuscripts and many more.
- Dakhinpat Satra – A vibrant cultural hub, especially during Raslila festival, one of Majuli’s biggest cultural events.
- Garamur Satra – Known for its traditional mask-making and dance forms. It also has a unique collection of ancient weapons and manuscripts.
- Samaguri Satra – Famous for its traditional mask-making art, which are used in traditional dramas (bhaonas). You can also witness artisans creating expressive, handcrafted masks here.

2. Molai Forest
Molai Forest is man-made forest, representing an extraordinary dedication of a person to restore nature. It is created by Jadav Molai Payeng, who is known as the “Forest Man of India.” He started planting trees in 1979 and now the area of forest is more than 550 hectares. The forest is now home to diverse ecosystem including Elephants, Bengal Tigers, Deers and many more animals. It also houses numerous Bird species, making it perfect place for bird watching.

3. Villages and Local Tribes
Majuli Assam is home to over 150 villages having people from different tribes but majorly Missing, Deori and Assamese. Majuli is the perfect place for cultural experience and experiencing rural life. Here people live in Bamboo houses, you will see women making clothes and threads from cotton, especially in Mising tribe. You can easily get a Bomboo house stay (like local villager’s house) here. Majuli it is often referred as the soul of Assam and has been the cultural capital of Assam since years. So, if you do not visit its village then you are definitely missing an amazing experience.

There are many festivals in Majuli that you can experience if
you visit during that time or plan your trip during that time. The most famous
and unique celebration is Ras Mahotsav, an elaborate celebration of Lord
Krishna’s life, with dance-dramas and colourful performances. Another festival
is Bihu which celebrated across Assam however celebration of Mising
community is something that you do not want to miss. There are many
