Mahabharat, Ancient Places that you should Explore

India is a country which have deep rooted history, among them the most famous one is Mahabharata – War of all wars. Many say it’s just another epic but it is a history, supported by many facts and living proof. Bhagavad Gita which is still one of the greatest guides to live an exemplary and fulfilling life, was also a part of Mahabharat.

Let’s see some of the Mahabharat places that you should visit: 

1. Kurukshetra, Haryana

It is said that the land of Kurukshetra is still red because of the blood it has seen during the war. Visit Jyotisar the land where Bhagavad Gita was first spoken by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. You should definitely go to Kurukshetra Panorama and Science Centre showing proof of Mahabharat. Do not forget to miss Bhishma Kund, Brahma Sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, and Karn Lake. Kurukshetra is the place where the final war happened, it is must go for every Mahabharat enthusiast. 

2. Hastinapur, Uttar Pradesh

Hastinapur was the capital city of Kuru Dynasty and there are many historical sites that is living proof of Mahabharata war. Pandeshwar temple, Draupadi ghat, Karna temple, Vidur Kuti, and Ruins of their palace – Baradari, are some of the major sites related to Mahabharat. Spend a serene evening on Ganga ghat which had witnessed all the events of Mahabharat. 

3. Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Manali is a very famous tourist destination, during epic Mahabharat it is the place where Pandav stayed for around a year. There’s a famous temple “Hidimba Devi Temple” dedicated to Hidimba, wife of Bhim, second son of Pandu. Another location related to Mahabharat is Arjun gufa, it is the place where Arjun received Pashupatastra from lord Shiva. There are many locations in Manali and nearby areas where Pandav visited during there exile. 

4. Barnawa, Uttar Pradesh

Varnawat is the site where the Kauravas attempted to kill the Pandavas by setting a wax house on fire. Remains of wax house – Lakshagriha, is still there witness one of the major sites of Mahabharata story. Today this place is known as Barnawa and is in Uttar Pradesh. 

5. Mukteshwar Temple Pathankot, Punjab

Mukteshwar Mahadev temple Pathankot is a 5,500-year-old caves and temple, built by Pandavas. Pandavas stayed here for 6 months during their exile and built it on the banks of Ravi River. Though one of the caves has collapsed, other four caves are still there, even the havan kund built by them is still present. This place is also known chota (mini) Haridwar. Do not miss the tasty langer of this place; Mukteshwar Dham Pathankot

6. Dwarka, Gujarat

Dwarka – floating city in the middle of sea, was a residence of Lord Krishna. Remains of this submerged city is still present under the sea which is a major location during Mahabharat. Some of the parts of Dwarka is still floating and can be easily visited by boat. Now government is also building a direct road bridge. In fact, you can also dive in ocean to see the submerged city of Dwarka. Witness the living proof of Krishna and proof of Mahabharata

There are many other locations and sites related to Mahabharat that everyone who loves Mahabharat story should visit. Places like Panchal in modern day Bareilly, Gandhari temple in Jammu and Kashmir, Draupadi Ratha in Tamil Nadu, Rajgir and Gaya in Bihar, Badrinath and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand also has many places related to Mahabharat places and many more places. These places are living proof of incredible history of Bharat (India) and world we live in today it proves that it’s not a myth but a history. Everyone should visit these Mahabharat places and experience it themselves.
