Surrounded by the lush Brahmagiri Parvat, this ancient temple is a must-visit place for both devotees and travelers. Today I am going to tell you about the story, history, how and when you can easily visit Trimbakeshwar Temple

Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Story

The story of Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga revolves around the sage Gautama Rishi who lived here with his wife Ahilya. Their devotion to Lord Shiva brought them abundant food and resources even during famine. Due to this, some sages got jealous of him and tricked him into committing a sin of cow slaughter. To seek redemption, he prayed to Lord Shiva rigorously (Tapasya). Pleased by his devotion, Lord Shiva asked Maa Ganga (the Ganga River) to flow here as well, which is known as Dakshin Ganga or Godavari River. At the request of Sage, Lord Shiva manifested himself as a Jyotirlinga. Trimbakeshwar Lingam is the only Jyotirlinga where the linga represents the trinity – Bramha, Vishnu and Mahesh. The present-day Trimbakeshwar temple was constructed in the 18th century by Peshwa Nana Saheb, using black basalt stone. The temple showcases exquisite Hemadpanthi architectural style, with beautifully carved pillars, sculpted deities, and intricate designs.
