Day 67: How Bhopal Became City of Lakes?

According to you all. What is the best time in a day to explore any place 🤔?

About me. Mostly I explore in evenings and nights 😃🌇🌉.

As in previous blog of Day 66 Bhopal is known as City of Lakes and also it is one of the greenest cities in India 🏡🏞.

It is having natural + artificial 17 lakes and 5 reservoirs.

Let me tell you a story🤠!

Bhoj Tal, Bhopal

There have been many dynasties in India. One of them is Parmar dynasty and their kingdom was centred around the Malwa region of central India 👑.

Malwa region is a large part of today’s Madhya Pradesh.

In 11th century the Kingdom of Malwa region is ruled by King Bhoj 🤴.

During his rule once he suffered from a skin disease and nobody was able to cure him 😟.

Then one day a saint came to him and told him to combine 365 tributaries making a reservoir and by bathing in it your skin disease will be cured 😃.

Then instantly King Bhoj called his engineers and ordered them to build up a huge reservoir as said by saint 🫡.

They found a place near Betwa river which was around 32 KM away from Bhopal 🏞.

But it was found that they were able to get only 359 tributaries 😨🤯.

In order to fill this shortage a Gond commander Kaliya gave the address of an invisible river and merged the tributaries of this river with the reservoir thus the number 365 was completed 😌😃.

And when King Bhoj took bath in it, he was cured 🥰☺.

This lake was also called Upper Lake or Bada Talab or Big Pond till March 2011 🏞.

Because in March 2011 the name of Bada Tal was changed to Bhoj Tal 🫡.

Along with lower lake and upper lake Bhoj Tal forms the Bhoj wetland 😍.
